As far as heritage outdoor brands go, there are few that hold the legacy and depth of expertise that Columbia do. Founded in 1938 as the Columbia Hat Company, the brand spent many years cementing themselves as the go to brand for outdoor accessories. By 1960, the brand had outgrown their small circle of expertise as a hat manufacturer and started to produce some of the most innovative jackets and outdoor apparel on the market. As well as this shift in product focus, the brand changed their name and became Columbia Sportswear Company as we know them today.
For the last 60 years Columbia Sportswear Company have stayed on top of their game, furthering their market reach by constantly innovating when it comes to the technology woven into their jackets, fleeces, trousers and accessories.
This advancement in technology each season is supported by the brands keen eye for detail when it comes to subtle design cues, and more recently, a look back at some of their archival styles and colourways, catering for the demand for vintage outerwear that continues to dominate trends.
This Fall '20 season from Columbia follows very much the same winning formula as previous seasons. With wearable styles taking centre stage, we see performance material woven into unique silhouettes, well-considered colourways and easily accessible price points.
The Chimp Store shot a range of looks using Columbia's Fall '20 product, take a look below whilst we dive into the details behind some of the key pieces.
First up is the Columbia Powder Keg Fleece - a style that wouldn't look out of place in an 80s skiing brochure, it takes on a retro winter-esque pattern, with plenty of the hallmarks of Columbia innovation visible throughout. With a stand up mock neck collar, this piece holds warmth, drawstrings in the collar allow for a customised fit, and a 4-button placket makes for an easy grab and wear pullover style. Finished with ribbed cuffs and hem, the Powder Keg Fleece carries Columbia patch branding at the centre chest.
Two key Columbia jacket styles for Fall are the Inner Limits II Jacket and Park Run Anorak. The former is a tried and tested all weather style from the Portland brand. We've seen this jacket in alternative colourways for previous seasons. This season we see the Inner Limits II Jacket given a mix of earthy tones as well as visible side panel branding. Columbia's famous Omni-Tech waterproof capabilities are present in this style, all seams are fully sealed, and pockets are finished with zippers for security when out and about. Best of all, this style is fully packable and portable in the event that the weather makes a sudden change.
Continuing Columbia jacket styles this season is the Park Run Anorak. A pullover style with a seemingly infinite amount of pockets, this Columbia anorak features Omni-Heat thermal reflective lining and a ripstop shell. A heavier style than some this season, it's a stylish must have for much colder days. Finished with Columbia branding at the chest, adjustable cuffs, hem and hood, this could just be your next go to winter piece.
More versatile styles from Columbia this season include the Mountainside Vest in Blue Stone, a sherpa vest with contrasting chest pocket and Columbia patch branding. This piece is a demonstration of the brands ability to produce performance heavy, street style items that don't break the bank.
This blue colour palette is also seen across the Columbia Cottonwood Park Fleece. A colourblock pullover fleece style, the Cottonwood fleece features hand pockets and a chest pocket.
Columbia's top range jacket this season is the Kings Crest Pullover Jacket. Available in two colourways, Black and Stone Green, this jacket style is insulated with their Thermarator technology and Omni-Heat reflective lining, keeping you warm on the coldest of days.
Finally, we see brand carrier t shirts from Columbia in familiar colourways. The CSC Basic Logo T Shirt has been a favourite amongst The Chimp Store community since we first introduced it a number of seasons ago. This time around it comes in a Black colourway with contrasting blue and purple branding, a theme we have seen run throughout other styles including the Bugasweat Crewneck and Quarter Zip.
